The sit-in program demanding the appointment of BNP leader Ishraq Hossain as mayor is going on for the sixth day. As usual, Ishraq supporters have blocked the road in front of the city hall today. All activities and services of the city hall are closed.
They gathered in groups in front of the city hall from different wards since 10 am on Tuesday. At one stage, the protesters sat on the road in solidarity with the slogans raised from the stage set up in front of the main gate.
The protesters continued to chant slogans demanding the immediate swearing-in of Ishraq Hossain as mayor and the resignation of Local Government Advisor Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan. At that time, they chanted various slogans including ‘Asif’s skin, we will take it off’, ‘Asif’s two cheeks, beat his shoes in unison’, ‘One point, one demand, Asif’s resignation’.
BNP leaders and activists who came to support Ishraq Hossain said, “The people’s mayor Ishraq Bhai must be sworn in very soon. Until then, the city building will remain closed.”
They also said that if their demand is not accepted soon, they will take up the toughest possible program.
